Why we built Thredra

Saving a clip you posted, archiving a moment, or grabbing a public video for research used to mean clunky apps, shady installers, or screen recordings that wreck the quality. We thought downloading public Threads media should be simpler and cleaner than that — something that runs right in your browser, respects your privacy, and just works on every device.

So we built Thredra: a thin, focused layer on top of the public media that a Threads post already exposes to any browser. It reads the post, lists the download options the platform itself serves, and hands you a Save button — nothing more, nothing hidden.

What Thredra does

Videos, photos & GIFs

Fetches the original files Threads serves — MP4 video with sound intact, full-resolution photos, and GIF/MP4-loop formats — in the highest quality the creator uploaded.

Works everywhere

It’s browser-based, so there’s nothing to install. The same flow works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Original quality only

We surface SD, HD, Full HD, and 4K when the post exposes them. We never upscale to fake a number — what you see is what the creator actually uploaded.

Available in 30+ languages

The site and guides are translated across more than 30 languages so people can use Thredra comfortably in their own language.

What we stand for

Privacy first

No accounts, no saved history, and no media stored on our servers. Files stream from the platform’s network, through your browser, to your device. The links you paste aren’t kept after a request finishes.

Transparency

We only read what a public post page already shows. No private APIs, no logging in as anyone, no permissions on your account. We’re open about exactly how the tool works.

Responsible use

Thredra is built for backing up your own content, archiving, journalism, research, and personal use — and for respecting creators’ rights. We deliberately don’t bypass privacy settings.

Quality & honesty

We return files exactly as the platform serves them — no watermarks added or removed, no recompression, no inflated numbers. If a format isn’t available, we say so.

What Thredra deliberately doesn’t do

  • No audio-only or MP3 extraction — the workflow most tied to music piracy. Videos keep their sound; we don’t strip soundtracks out.
  • No private or restricted content — if a post isn’t publicly accessible, we won’t fetch it. There’s no “unlock” path, by design.
  • No bulk profile scraping — one link at a time. No API, batch tool, or account-wide downloader.
  • No affiliation claims — Thredra is an independent tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Meta, Instagram, or Threads.

Who Thredra is for

Creators backing up their own posts; social-media teams managing approved campaign assets; journalists preserving public statements of public interest; researchers capturing posts for citation and study; and everyday users who simply want to watch a public clip offline. Whatever the use, what matters is that the media is public and that you use it responsibly.

A note on rights. Downloading a public post for personal use is one thing; re-publishing someone else’s content is another. Copyright stays with the original creator. Please get permission or have a lawful basis before any non-personal use — see our Terms and Privacy Policy for details.
